HOW ARE THE OLD TREATED?

When did we change from veneraating the oldto seeing them as excess baggage?

3 - After watching the movie The Bucket List I asked myself what I would want to do if I had only had a very short time to live. And,unli tearjerk endings I do not envision myself surrounded by weeping relatives and friends. So - sky diving? Riding an elephant in Africa, singing in an opera, being an extra in a movie, borrowing a tiger baby for a week,meeting the dream person of my life (in my case Richard Feynman, physicist and magician, long dead. ?
