It’s almost unimaginable that we should voluntarily give up living, but if we’re in such a weakened or impaired state that nothing gives us pleasure anymore, then it’s time to go. Things will not get better. Dying will bring peace.
I think it’s impossible for anyone to REALLY imagine a world in which he or she does not exist. Of course, we all understand our deaths intellectually, but the emotional reality, I believe is unfathomable. I don’t think–whatever preparations I take, intellectual, practical, otherwise–I will really “understand” my death until it’s actually happening. And even then, I can’t imagine feeling anything but the desire to hang on–to life, and to myself. Thoughts???
